FAQ
Questions We Get Asked
Straight answers, including to the ones where the honest answer is “it depends”.
Leaks & repairs
Can you fix a leaking shower without removing tiles?
Often, yes. Many shower leaks are caused by defects at the tiled surface, such as deteriorated grout, perished silicone, failed junctions or unsealed penetrations, and those can be repaired without demolition.
It depends on the condition and the source of the leak. An inspection may be required to determine whether a non-invasive repair is suitable. Where the evidence points to a failed waterproofing membrane, a plumbing fault or structural movement, a surface repair will not resolve it and we will tell you that rather than proceed.
Can a balcony leak be repaired without removing tiles?
Sometimes. Balcony leaks caused by deteriorated grout, failed perimeter seals, missing movement joints or unsealed penetrations can frequently be addressed from the surface.
Balconies carry more risk of a deeper cause than bathrooms do. Where a leak originates below the tiled surface or from a structural waterproofing defect, surface remediation is unlikely to provide an appropriate repair, and further investigation or alternative remedial work would be recommended.
How do I know if my grout is causing the leak?
You often cannot tell from the surface alone, which is why we assess before quoting. That said, grout is a strong candidate when it is visibly cracked, crumbling or missing, when the silicone in the corners has perished, and when the dampness outside the bathroom lines up with the wettest part of the shower.
Grout is less likely to be the cause when the leak happens only while the taps are running, when it appears regardless of whether the shower has been used, or when there is no visible defect in the joints at all. Those patterns point elsewhere.
How long does bathroom leak repair take?
Most targeted repairs to a single shower or wet area are completed within a day. A full regrout of a shower including silicone replacement is also typically a one-day job.
Larger scopes, multiple areas or work that turns out to need additional preparation can extend beyond that. Your written quotation sets out the expected duration before work starts.
Regrouting
Does regrouting stop water leaks?
It can, when deteriorated grout is genuinely the path the water is taking. Reinstating sound joints and replacing failed sealant removes that path.
Regrouting is not a waterproofing system, though. It will not repair a failed membrane beneath the tiles, a leaking pipe or a structural defect. Anyone who tells you a regrout fixes every leak is overselling it.
How long before I can use the shower again?
As a general guide, allow at least 24 hours after grouting and silicone application before the area is wet again. Silicone in particular needs time to cure properly, and using the shower too early is the most common cause of a premature failure.
The exact time depends on the products used, the temperature and the humidity on the day. We give you specific written curing times for your job before we leave.
Do you remove existing grout?
Yes. Deteriorated grout is cut out to an appropriate depth rather than having new grout smeared over the top of it. Grout applied over failed grout does not bond properly and will not last.
Sound grout is generally left in place. Removing grout that is still doing its job adds cost and creates unnecessary risk of chipping tile edges.
Do you replace silicone?
Yes. Internal corners, wall-to-floor junctions and other joints that move take flexible sealant rather than rigid grout. Old sealant is removed completely, the joint is cleaned and prepared, and new sealant is applied and tooled.
Sealant is never applied over the top of existing silicone, because it will not adhere reliably and it traps whatever is growing underneath.
Can you match my existing grout colour?
We can usually get close. Where a whole area is being regrouted at once the match matters less, because the entire surface is consistent when we finish.
An exact match to aged grout is not something we would promise. Existing grout carries years of staining and wear that new material does not have. If colour is important to you, we will discuss the options before starting.
Quotes & pricing
Do you provide written quotes?
Yes. Every job is quoted in writing before work begins, with the scope set out line by line so you know exactly what is and is not included.
Quotations remain valid for 30 days from the date of issue unless stated otherwise.
Do I need an inspection?
For straightforward regrouting, clear photographs and measurements are often enough for us to quote accurately.
For a leak, an inspection is usually the right call. Identifying where water is actually getting through is what determines whether a non-invasive repair is appropriate, and that is difficult to establish from photos alone.
How accurate is the online calculator?
It is an indicative range, not a quotation. It is built from the information you give it, so it is only as accurate as those inputs, and it cannot see the things that most affect a leak repair, such as the actual source of the water or the condition of what sits behind the tiles.
Treat it as a way to understand the likely order of magnitude before you speak to anyone. Final pricing is confirmed after reviewing the condition, access, measurements and required repair method.
Do you provide a warranty?
Yes. The terms are set out in your written quotation for the specific scope of work being carried out, rather than on this website, because what is covered depends on the job. Ask us about it when we quote and we will go through it with you.
Consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law apply to our services regardless of any additional warranty offered.
Working with us
Do you work with real estate agents and property managers?
Yes, and it is a significant part of what we do. We provide written quotations before attendance, coordinate access with tenants, supply before and after photographs, and invoice in a format that suits agency workflows.
There is a dedicated work request form for property managers that captures everything needed to get a job moving in one submission, including purchase order numbers and access instructions.
Can you liaise directly with tenants?
Yes, where you provide tenant contact details and authorise us to do so. We will arrange access directly, confirm the appointment, and keep the property manager informed.
If you would prefer all contact to run through your office instead, that is fine too. Just tell us on the work request.
Do you do commercial properties?
Yes. Offices, retail tenancies, accommodation, hospitality venues and other commercial facilities. We can attend multiple wet areas across a site or across several sites, and provide a consolidated scope and quotation.
Where work needs to happen outside trading hours or around a site induction process, tell us at the enquiry stage and we will build that into the quotation.
Do you work with NDIS participants?
We can assist eligible NDIS participants, support coordinators and plan managers with bathroom and wet-area maintenance where the work relates to the participant’s approved supports and funding arrangements.
Eligibility for payment through NDIS funding depends on the participant’s individual plan and funding arrangements. Please confirm funding eligibility with your plan manager, support coordinator or the NDIA.
What areas of Perth do you service?
We service Perth & surrounding metropolitan areas, Western Australia.
If you are just outside our usual coverage, get in touch anyway. We can often help, and we will tell you honestly if we cannot.
Do you offer emergency call-outs?
We are not a 24/7 emergency service. If you have active water entering the property, your first calls should be to a plumber to isolate the source and, where relevant, your insurer.
Once the immediate situation is under control, send us photos and we will assess the next step for the wet area itself.
